I must admit I haven't been following the Pittsburgh Penguins at all but this year they obviously made it to the play offs. I caught the final period of the first game in Baltimore and saw how much better Detroit was.
When we went to see the 2nd game in Pittsburgh the overall impression was pretty similar: Detroit trashing the Pens. During the 3rd game I was out having dinner but we could hear 2 very loud cheers from a bar closeby. After dinner we watched the final period and the Pens first win in Alexander's hotel. Game 4 was happening during a BBQ party so I only was updated by txt messages. By the end of the party the overall score in the play off series was Detroit 3, Pens 1.
Not good. Not good at all.
But without a doubt, last night's game (which I could catch on my TV without having cable TV!) was the most intense, bizarre, exhilarating game of ice hockey in this play off series!
I was unfamiliar with the regulations that state the game will go into indefinite sudden death overtime mode until one of the 2 teams scores.
The sheer will, courage and sacrifice showcased last night was amazing. That player Malone was already playing with a broken nose and in this game got the puck blasted into his face yet continued to play! Fucken impressive!
Though I think Detroit overall is a better team the Pens managed to win the game by giving it their 200%. Whether or not it will be enough to turn the play offs around and actually win it remains to be seen.
But game 5 was a brilliant piece of ice hockey which will go into Stanley Cup history for sure.
Let's see what game 6 tomorrow night will bring. It's taking place in Pittsburgh so perhaps the home advantage will give the Pens the much craved for wings...
