The Paradise Lost gig was good, they even played some oldies like "Gothic", "As I die" and "Pity the sadness". No grunt though.
This was only my 2nd time at the Biebob so I forgot how much it resembles a sauna. Even when standing at the bar we were sweating like crazy.
After the gig we checked the Shiver Records store and I bought the new Mekong Delta and one of Manilla Road's albums for Ed.
Most of the days I've been watching either Twin Peaks season 2 and the movies in the Wong Kar Wai boxset. Good times!
Early Friday afternoon I jumped on a train to Joost who was so not looking forward to the Gorefest gig haha. Once we got to the Melkweg we got a ticket for Joost and headed to a Thai restaurant which is always a great choice imo.
The support act Cultura Tras, or something like that, sounded like some mid period Sepultura but despite their musical skills I didn't care about their gig. Chatted with Ed and Boudewijn for a bit and asked the Gorefest merch ladies to put 4 shirts aside for my American redneck friend Tom.
Also met some folks (deathmetalraver, his gf, decay, lukep) from the Global Domination forum before the gig started. Gorefest kicked off their set around 9:30 pm and ended around 11 pm. Strangely enough the crowd didn't explode until the 5th song which was the opening track of the new album.
I shot some nice pics of the GD forum members having fun during the show. Click HERE to check them out. It's the last 23 pics of that album.
After the gig I picked up the shirts and got a great deal concerning the price I had to pay. Then I grabbed the Gorefest band members to shoot some pics of them with the shirts for Tom's pleasure.
Shortly after the GF stage hands were done packing up their equipment a DJ set up and started playing electronic music. Quite an abrupt change in music style!
Joost was bored and wanted to go home but the GD folks wanted to hit the A-dam nightlife. So after some discussion I decided to join them and take a night bus back to Joost's place.
First we went to the small metal/rock bar The Cave but it was rather crowded so shortly after we headed to the Korsakoff. Interestingly they were playing some similar electronic music to what the Melkweg DJ was playing.
After a few hours they started to play some more rock/alternative/metal songs so I guess patience paid off in the end. The last 8 pics of the aforementioned link were taken at the Korsakoff.
I'm not sure at what time deathmetalraver, his gf and lukep went back to their hotels but the Korsakoff was still going strong. So I stayed there until closing time with decay and after the Korsakoff closed (around 4 am) I walked her back to her hotel. After I found the bus stop of the night bus I eventually arrived at Joost's place and hit the sack at 5:30 am.
I'm old and boring so I'm not using to going out that late. Saturday was mostly spend chilling out and in the afternoon I took the train back to Limburg.
Spent the remaining time of the weekend on the wonderful Twin Peaks and the incredible Wong Kar Wai boxset. Only 3 Twin Peaks episodes left plus some bonus material and only 1 bonus DVD of the WKW boxset left.
Right now I'm just abiding my time until the shops in our local mall open so I can buy some envelopes to send the Gorefest shirts to Tom.
Six minutes left.
